The Village of Evendale
Regular Council Meeting
June 14th, 2011



The Village of Evendale Regular Council Meeting was called to order by Vice Mayor Ms. Carolyn Smiley-Robertson at 7:00pm.

Roll call- The following council members were present: Ms. Carolyn Smiley-Robertson, Mr. Stiney Vonderhaar, Mr. John Ranz, Jr., Mr. Bill Puthoff, and Mr. Chris Schaefer. Mr. Doug Lohmeier was absent and excused.   Also present:  Village Engineer, James Jeffers; Fire Chief Rick Cruse, Cindy Vaske, Village Solicitor, Tim Burke and Village CFO George Snyder.

Vice Mayor Smiley-Robertson presented the consent calendar.  The motion to accept the consent calendar was make by Mr. Vonderhaar, seconded by Mr. Puthoff and unanimously approved.


Committee Reports:

Police and Fire Council Committee:  
Mr. Ranz stated the Chief of Police continues to meet with GE to discuss plans in case of a strike..  On May 10th, 2011, from the FOP Lodge #69, the FOPA Queen City Lodge #4, and the Hamilton County Police Association, Lt. Steve Niehauser and Sgt. Doug Abrams were awarded the 2010 Hamilton County Law Enforcement Appreciation and Achievement Award for the “Best Overall Investigative Job Leading to the Solution of a Crime”  

On June 10th, Lt. Jeff McDaniel graduated from the 59th session of the Police Executive Leadership College in Columbus Ohio. This is an intensive three week course emphasizing leadership development.

Finance, Administration, Recreation, Service, Engineering and GHF Committee:
Mr. Schaefer stated that the earnings tax is up approximately $500,000 ahead of 2011 budget estimates.  The projections have not changed until the GE strike situation is over.

Mr. Vonderhaar:  July 4th “Beat the Hill” 10K is July 4th. The festival will be all day on the grounds and fireworks will be at 10:00 PM.

Ms. Smiley-Robertson mentioned that trash collection will take place on July 4th but starting at 3:00AM.  Residents are asked to take out bins in the evening and bring them in as soon as collected.

The Vice Mayor presented  Res. #11-04 RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE GUIDELINES FOR THE RECREATION COMMISSION TO USE TO ESTABLISH FEES.   A motion to read Res. #11-04 by title only was made by Mr. Schaefer, seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved on roll call.  This is the second reading.

Other Business:

Jack Cameron briefed council on the “Thru the Valley” I-75 project. The funding for this project is only for Glendale Milford Rd to Sheppard Land.  It is currently scheduled for 2014 to 2015. There will be a change in the exits and collector roads currently on I-75.  The project is to address congestions and safety.  There will be a new roadway between Sheppard Land and Glendale Milford Rd.  GE has a new corporate healthy initiative and the new road will have bike and walking paths.  This will be a new public street that will be maintained by Evendale.  What this road will look like will have to be decided in the future regarding size, landscaping, lighting etc.    Also, decisions will have to be made in the future about the colors and type of bridge to go over I-75.  Evendale will also be responsible for the landscaping and maintenance of the ramps.  The connection to Lincoln Heights will also to be discussed in the future.

Phil Schneider, resident, addressed council and stated that he feels the Mayors Newsletter should of mentioned the upcoming elections.  

A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Schaefer and seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved on roll call.  Meeting was adjourned at 7:20.
